What do you get?

Specific Mbps numbers for your operator negotiation — not just "you need fast internet".

3 connection scenarios

Minimum (today), comfortable (with buffer) and for growth (3–5 years). Each with separate justification — you can show the result to your operator.

Breakdown by category

Guests, streaming/IPTV, remote work, back-office, IoT — you know where every Mbps comes from. Easier to negotiate with the operator.

FTTH, dedicated, LTE/5G backup — the calculator indicates the connection type appropriate for your property and its SLA requirements.

Internet bandwidth calculator

Calculate your bandwidth requirements

4 short steps — the calculator estimates the recommended connection for your hotel.

iBeeQ Internet Calculator Step 1 of 4

Property scale

Number of rooms and hotel profile — starting point for bandwidth calculation.

Number of rooms 50rooms
Property profile

Business hotel
Conferences, VPN, video calls
8 Mbps base / room

Leisure resort
Streaming, social media, vacation
3 Mbps base / room

Long stays, remote work
4 Mbps base / room

Guests & usage

Services your guests use — the heart of the calculator.

Smart TV 4K, Apple TV, Disney+ 4K — standard in 4–5★ hotels

Back-of-house

Hotel operational systems — often overlooked but significantly raise requirements.

Business services
Front desk PMS + VoIP
Online hotel management, IP telephony
Restaurant / bar
Online POS, payment terminals, streamed music
IP CCTV monitoring
Network cameras streaming live
Conference rooms
4K video calls, Teams/Zoom, live streams
Number of IP cameras 8cam.
~2 Mbps per Full HD camera (local NVR or cloud)
Number of conf. rooms 2rooms
~50 Mbps per room (4K Teams/Zoom + presentations)
Why is back-of-house important? PMS, cameras and conference rooms generate constant traffic — not dependent on guest count. A 50-room hotel with 16 cameras and 2 conference rooms needs ~150 Mbps just for back-of-house, regardless of occupancy.

Why not just pick the fastest package?

The calculator is a starting point. Real optimization requires availability analysis, SLA contract and failover architecture.

verified

SLA & guaranteed bandwidth

Cheap FTTH has no SLA — at peak you may get 20% of advertised speed. Business contracts with SLA guarantee 24/7 bandwidth and repair time under 4 hours.

router

Redundancy — zero downtime

A single provider is a single point of failure. LTE/5G backup + automatic failover eliminates downtime — payment terminals and PMS work even when the main link fails.

tune

QoS & traffic prioritization

Even a fast connection without QoS can be congested by one guest downloading files. Proper router configuration guarantees priority for VoIP, PMS and CCTV cameras.

engineering

Connection for growth

4K streaming, more IP cameras, IPTV — bandwidth requirements grow 20–30% per year. A contract with scalability without penalty is a key negotiation condition.

FAQ

Questions?

Answers to common questions about hotel internet connections.

How much Mbps does a 100-room hotel need?
expand_more
A business hotel with 100 rooms typically needs 800–1,200 Mbps total. A leisure hotel — 400–600 Mbps. The difference comes from video calls, VPN and remote work. The calculator computes this precisely for your profile.
What is the difference between symmetric and asymmetric connection?
expand_more
A symmetric connection (e.g. FTTH, dedicated) has identical download and upload speeds. This is critical for hotels where guests make video calls (Teams, Zoom) or transfer large files. Asymmetric connections (cable, xDSL) have slow uploads — insufficient for business hotels.
Does 4K streaming and IPTV really need that much bandwidth?
expand_more
Yes. A single 4K Netflix stream requires 15–25 Mbps. With 50 rooms watching simultaneously that is 750–1,250 Mbps just for streaming. IPTV OTT adds ~8 Mbps per room. The calculator assumes simultaneous load, not just peak.
Why is LTE/5G backup important for hotels?
expand_more
A main link outage is a direct revenue loss and negative guest reviews. LTE/5G backup ensures continuity for critical systems: PMS, payment terminals, IP cameras. A 4G connection at 50–100 Mbps as failover is usually sufficient — dual-SIM routers with automatic failover are available from around €150.
What is the difference between dedicated and FTTH?
expand_more
FTTH (fibre to the building) is a shared connection — cheap, but without guaranteed bandwidth at peak hours. A dedicated connection provides exclusive bandwidth with SLA guarantee (99.9% uptime, repair time under 4h). For hotels over 50 rooms, we recommend at least a Business contract with SLA or a dedicated connection.
