What is GPON and why does it matter for hotels?

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) uses a single fiber strand from the main distribution frame to serve multiple rooms using passive optical splitters — no powered switches or amplifiers in between. One cable per room carries TV signal (IPTV), high-speed internet and the backhaul for WiFi access points. The result: dramatically simplified infrastructure, fewer failure points and almost unlimited bandwidth capacity for the next 20+ years.
