DVB-T2 HEVC available throughout Poland
On May 1, 2021, Emitel and Telewizja Polska launched the first nationwide multiplex broadcast in the DVB-T2 system using the H.265 HEVC codec. The following channels are currently broadcast on the multiplex:
- TVP Kultura HD
- TVP Polonia HD
- TVP Entertainment SD
- TVP Document
- TVP Woman
Interestingly, only the TVP Entertainment channel is broadcast in a resolution of 720×576 pixels. The remaining channels, although some do not have the HD label, are broadcast in resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels. Telewizja Polska announces that during the overdue football world championships Euro 2020, a special TVP 4K channel will be launched on this multiplex, broadcasting matches in 4K quality, in HDR standard and with Dolby Atmos sound.

So far, the tests have been conducted locally in a few selected localities. The launch of a multiplex broadcast in the DVB-T2 H.265 HEVC standard, which covers the entire country with its range, is a great way to check whether TV sets installed in the hotel will receive terrestrial TV channels after the changes that will take place in spring 2022. The first DVB-T transmitters will be turned off in the southwest of Poland at the end of March 2022.
